18 Lessons Learned in 18 Years

Updated: Dec 20, 2019

1. You attract the energy you put off.

I can confidently say that manifestation is 100% real. If you raise your vibration, set good intentions, and practice gratitude, then you can attract literally anything that aligns with your goals.

2. Life is not meant to be taken so seriously.

No one has life figured out, not even adults, so if they say that they do, then they are lying to you. We all must surrender to the unknown and think of life as it should be, a journey.

Along with that, we must trust the timing of our lives. Things happen (or don’t happen) for reasons that are unknown to us, but everything truly does have reason and purpose.

3. Mental health comes first.

It is truly impossible to be the best you, the best friend, the best sibling, or the best student you can be if you are not first taking care of your mental health.

Practices such as mindfulness, yoga, meditation, and journaling should be staples in everyone’s routine.

4. Do it all for you.

Let the opinions of other become background noise. Listen to your inner self, and let your soul fuel your actions, not the arbitrary whisperings of society. You truly do perform your best when your own desires fuel your actions.

5. Move your body everyday.

It doesn’t have to be intense cardio or strength training. I have learned that walks in nature cleanse the soul, and yoga strengthens the connection between the mind and body.

I have also learned that when stressed, upset, or just unhappy, running helps! I could run for 5 minutes or 50, either way I will feel like a new person afterwards.

6. Trying your best eliminates stress.

When you come to terms with the fact that there is nothing more that you could do, then you are able to come to peace with the inevitable outcome, whatever that may be.

7. A clean room and a shower are game changers.

Sometimes bad days don’t turn around. In case of lingering bad moods: clean your room, change your sheets, take a hot shower, and sip some tea. You will feel better in the morning.

8. Coffee tastes better black and first thing in the morning.

Enough said

9. Lemons!

Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning is hydrating, aids in digestion, cleanses your body, and gives you energy.

Also, ½ a lemon and 2 tsp of honey mixed together forms a liquid facemask that clears acne, fades dark spots, hydrates the skin, and cleanses like no other product.

10. Regroup and move forward

“Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.”- Maruki Murakami

It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you respond to it that matters. When life gets tough, pull yourself together and just keep going. The only way out of a painful situation is to push through it.

11. Don’t play victim

The world is not out to get you, and things don’t happen to us, they happen for us.

We hold the fate of our happiness in the palm of our hands. There is no such thing as a life without problems. If you wait for the day where there are none, you will never be happy. Instead hope for a life full of manageable problems.

12. Happiness is not a goal; it is a process.

Choose happiness. Choose to see the flipped side of the coin. Choose to push through the rough patches of life. And when tragedy strikes, take the time to grieve, but do not stay in a state of sorrow for long.

13. Live life with no regrets.

It is who you were yesterday that has led you to who you are today, and it is who you are today that will lead you to who you will be tomorrow.

14. Stress is not the enemy.

It is our reaction to stress that causes the negative side effects. Our body responds to stressful situations by increasing our adrenaline in order to give us enough strength and energy to get through it, whether that is a test, a presentation, or a car accident. Our body is working for us, not against us. It is our negative reactions to stress, such as panic and fear, that cause the problems.

Breathe through the stress, and whatever you do, do not let the panic take over.

15. Faith trumps fear.

Believe in yourself, believe in the universe, and believe in the power of light and love. The hardest but most beneficial task one could master is the ability to have faith in what you want to manifest, while also being grateful for its future arrival.

In other words, act as if. Act as if you already have what you are working towards, and it will eventually come.

16. In order to be the best version of yourself, you must find the proper balance between the academic, social, mental, and physical parts of your life.

No one is a superhero. In actuality, everything cannot be done, so find the proper balance that fits perfectly into your own life.

17. Let go of the attachments you have to things that do not serve you.

Everything in life is temporary, so why waste precious time on things that drain your joy?

What I like to do is take a social media cleanse once a month (or as frequently as I need to). It is so easy to get caught up in unhealthy comparisons and form attachments to things that do not bring us happiness. Social media breaks happen to do the trick. Try it for yourself; you will be surprised at how powerful the outcome is.

And finally, the 18th and most important lesson I have learned in my brief 18 years circling the sun:

18. “We live to see where life will take us, and we live not to follow but to create.” –Anonymous

Let that sink in…

We live to see where life will take us, and we live not to follow but to create.

With love and light,
